Frequently Asked Questions

Muslim population in the western part of Richmond has been growing for years but there is no mosque in a  closer proximity to fulfill the spiritual needs to the community. The local Muslim community has pooled its resources to make temporary arrangements that has been partially fulfilling their needs.  These temporary arrangements are becoming increasingly difficult to maintain and support.  Construction of the West End Islamic Center (WEIC) will fulfill a decades old need of the Muslim community of Richmond. WEIC will act as a beacon of religious harmony and understanding and will reach out to other faiths to build a tolerant and inclusive community in the greater Richmond area.

West End Islamic Center (WEIC) is a non-for-profit 501(c)3 registered organization. Tax-ID: 45-2507321. Donations made to 501C type organizations are often tax deductible. Please consult your tax advisor for more information regarding tax-deductible donations to 501(c) organizations.

For years we have relied upon rental spaces and our small facility. Our primary rental space has been sold and is due to shut down in the next year. We are now in the final phases of construction with many visible accomplishments. If we meet our fund raising goals, we are due to complete this project by next Ramadan,2021  insha’Allah. We need everyone to go above and beyond their means. Please Donate!

Richmond is a large metropolitan area and the Muslim population is spread throughout the region.  There is a need to build mosques at strategic locations to cater to the spiritual needs of the Muslim community. There are a few mosques already built in the region that are fulfilling the needs of their congregants.  The WEIC will fulfill the needs of the Muslim community residing in the Western part of the city and will be the first mosque built in this region. Currently about 300 congregants attend Friday prayers in temporary arrangements provided by the WEIC.  The new center will have a capacity of 400 people that will adequately serve their needs.

The Masjid has traditionally been the center for a Muslim. The current political environment further necessitates that we have a place for the wellbeing of our community, for interfaith dialogues, as well as to provide help to those in need.

You are welcome to come and visit the center any time. If you visit during the regular prayers timings, you may be able to meet people and ask questions.  If you would like to have a guided tour, we will be happy to arrange that as well.

The WEIC believe in transparency and accountability. Donors can always ask for financial information about the project.  Please do not hesitate to contact if you have any questions or concerns about your donations.

WEIC is expected to be fully functional in 2022.  Much of the constriction work has already been completed.  Completion of the remaining work is dependent upon availability of funds. Your donation could make a difference.

How can I support this project?

There are many ways to support the project.  Every level of contribution is welcome and appreciated.  You can make a onetime donation, contribute monthly or finance a part of the project.  Please donate online on : WEIC website.  Please feel free to reach out to us if you need additional information or need a special arrangement.
